Hotel pools and the lakeside resort of Porto Seguro (a short drive from Lom) offer safe swimming: Hotel Sarkawa has an olympic-sized pool, the biggest in West Africa. There are also water-skiing and sailing facilities at Porto Seguro. The scenic hill country around Kapilm offers good opportunities for hiking.
