Getting There By Air

E-mail: cph@cph.dk Website: www.cph.dk The airport is among the most modern and efficient in the world and is located eight kilometres (five miles) from the city centre, just 15-20 minutes. In 2002, the airport was the only one in Scandinavia to show growth in the number of passengers. It is the main hub serving Scandinavia and the Baltic and is the principal airport for Scandinavian Airlines (SAS). International flights use terminals two and three. Terminal one handles domestic services to destinations on Jutland and Funen. Flight information is available from Scandinavian Airlines System (tel: 3232 0000), Novia (tel: 3247 4747) and ServisAir (tel: 3231 4055), but, in 2002, the airport introduced a new system enabling registered users to have messages sent direct to their mobile phones, relaying gate and boarding information, any changes or delays and the arrival time of flights and baggage. This service is available through the website. A free transit bus connects the domestic and international terminals.
Major airlines: SAS, Scandinavian Airlines System (tel: 7010 2000; website: www.sas.se ), located on the ground floor of the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel in the city centre, is the major airline for Denmark, Sweden and Norway. There are 60 other airlines operating to and from 113 cities served worldwide, including Air France, British Airways, easyJet, Iberia, Lufthansa, KLM, Thai Airways International and Virgin Express.
Approximate flight times to Copenhagen: From London is 2 hours 45 minutes; from New York is 11 hours 45 minutes; from Los Angeles is 21 hours 15 minutes; from Toronto is 14 hours 45 minutes and from Sydney is 23 hours 15 minutes.
Airport facilities: Branches of Danske Bank (terminals one and two) and Nordea (terminal three) offer currency exchange services, daily 0630-2200; Danske Bank has ATMs in terminals one and three, Nordea in terminal three. Other facilities and services include tourist information and hotel reservations in the international arrivals hall, travel agencies, a post office, duty-free shops, restaurants, a family area, childcare facilities, 24-hour first aid and left-luggage lockers, as well as saunas, showers and solarium. There is a new five-star Hilton Hotel (tel: 3250 1501; website: www.hilton.dk ) linked to terminal three by a covered walkway, steps and elevators, as well as a transfer hotel (tel: 3231 2455) in terminal two. Car hire is available from Avis, Budget, Europcar Pitzner, Hertz and Sixt.
Business facilities: There is a brand-new Airport Business Centre (tel: 3248 3000; fax: 3248 3001; e-mail: cph.business@ssp.dk; website: www.cphbusinesscentre.dk ) in terminal three, including exclusive executive conference rooms, audiovisual equipment, small meeting rooms and a VIP room. Scandinavian Airlines, ServisAir and Novia each provide executive lounges for their passengers.
Arrival/departure tax: None.
Transport to the city: There are three direct DSB-HT S-tog services (tel: 3314 1701; website: www.s-tog.dk ) running hourly (15, 35 and 55 minutes past the hour) to Central, Hellerup, sterport, Nrreport, Glostrup and Hje Tstrup stations (journey time – 15 minutes). Services operate Monday to Friday 0455–0035, Saturday 0535–0015 and Sunday 0635–0015. Tickets cost Dkk22.50 and are available from the ticket office in terminal three. Public buses 9, 58, 250S and 500S (see Public Transport in Getting Around) run from the airport to the city centre and beyond until midnight daily. Tickets cost Dkk16.50 to the city centre (journey time – 20-25 minutes). Night bus 96N runs 0037-0400 from terminal three to City Hall Square (Rdhuspladsen). A taxi to the city centre costs Dkk200 (journey time – approximately 20 minutes).
