National Gallery of Australia Description: The National Gallery of Australia houses many of Australia’s finest art collections, and boasts a selection of indigenous works, including the permanent feature The Aboriginal Memorial (1987/88). The gallery, which opened in 1982, has a permanent art collection which boasts more than 100,000 works and is also home to regular international art and photography exhibitions. Collections housed in the gallery cover 5000 years and include works from many artists, including Jackson Pollock, Sidney Nolan, Lucien Freud and Andy Warhol. There is also a beautiful landscaped garden located in the grounds between the gallery and the banks of Lake Burley Griffin, where many sculptures are on permanent display.
