    Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Description: The city of Blackpool has been attracting holiday visitors ever since 1735, when the first guest house opened. In the 19th century, it became a popular working-class destination among the British and, in 1896, Blackpool Pleasure Beach was opened. Today, this American-style amusement park with a distinctly British feel has a variety of rides to suit all tastes and ages. Rides include white-knuckle rides, such as the Log Flume, the classic wooden Big Dipper and the world-famous Pepsi Max Big One, a terrifying 1675.5-metre (5497-foot) long roller coaster that drops from heights of up to 63.7 m (209 ft) at a speed of 119.1 kmph (74 mph). There are also more sedate rides which include a monorail ride around the pleasure beach, the Ghost Train and the Black Hole, which is a waltzer ride in the dark complete with flashing lights and disco music; rides suitable for children include two Carousels, a trip through a tilting reconstruction of Noah’s Ark and the parks’ oldest attraction, a centrifugal rocket ride called Flying Machines. Valhalla, which opened in 2000, is the world’s biggest ride in the dark. There are also several shows to entertain visitors, such as Eclipse at the Globe, featuring acrobats, aerialists and dancers, and a separate Beaver Creak theme park, aimed specifically at children, with rides including the Beaver Creak Log Flume, a smaller version of the popular Log Flume, and the Zipper Dipper children’s wooden rollercoaster.
