Time zone: GMT - 9 (GMT - 8 between 5 April-27 October). Currency: US Dollar (US$) = 100 cents. Language: English. Sightseeing: Skagway is the main port of call for Alaska and the gateway to the Klondike Goldrush National Historic Park. Notorious as the place through which prospectors passed on the goldrush trail of 1898, the town still retains much of its charm today and still resembles the lawless boomtown it was during the goldrush when thousands of fortune hunters stormed the town. It has much character including saloons and wooden sidewalks. Highlights include the Trail of ‘89 Museum, the Goldrush Cemetery and Corrington Museum of National History. Visitors can travel around the town in an antique streetcar or take the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway to see stunning views, including Glacier Gorge, Sawtooth Mountain, Dead Horse and Bridal Veil Falls. Shopping: See Juneau. Eating out: See Juneau. |
